I wasn't making claims for the openness of Flash in this post. If I was, it'd be a silly comparison against the iPhone which is about as open as a bank safe. The iPhone tried the standards-based Web applications route, that didn't go so well. In the world of the standards committees :), it must seem so obvious. Down here where the rubber meets the road, trying to make a consistent user experience across all the different flavors of web browsers (mobile or desktop) is like sticking hot pokers in your eyes over and over. Also, I'd love to see a standards-based web application version of Spore... You have a valid point for a different discussion.

Flash and FLEX are yet another lock-in proprietary platform - they are not the Web. The future is standards-based Web applications - yes, even on mobile. Look into your heaart. You KNOW it to be true. Kevin, you have been eating at the Adobe commissary for too long. Flash and FLEX are yet another lock-in proprietary platform - they are not the Web. Comment on Interland (web.com) sucks - part the final by Heath http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/01/27/interland-webcom-sucks-part-the-final/#comment-646 Heath Sat, 08 Mar 2008 00:01:31 +0000 http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/01/27/interland-webcom-sucks-part-the-final/#comment-646 Interland / Web.com has been a thorn in my side for over a year! They SUCK! I requested to cancel service and that they release my domain so that I could move it to another registrar. It took them over 6 months! Then they still had not cancelled the service despite repeated attempts. Finally, after them not correcting this issue, I had to have the credit card cancelled! So you know what they did? The money grubbing scum suckers actually sent the account to collections! When I told them I wasn't paying, they told me that they... and yes, this is completely true... "Can't talk to me about the status of this account, or close it until it is out of Collections Status"!!!! Then they even asked for a new credit card number to get it "up to date so they can cancel it". Not only do I warn people about the companies products, but they are outright thieves! All the news stories are surreal to me. I too am another Seattle musician who worked and co wrote with her . She was one in a million and will be missed very much. I can't believe the circumstances around her death. I was in and out of touch with Ray (like most people who knew her) but we emailed up untill august and she never said a word about being sick. But then , i guess she wouldn't. I can see Ray choosing to end her life on her own terms, but taking her daughter with her? no way. No fucking way! I'm confused, sad and i don't understand what the fuck just happened. I am sorry if I've offended anyone. I'm just really sad, and angry. and i miss my friend. Comment on LuRay Hodder Kuca: Rest In Peace - 1968-2007 by Joe V http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/09/07/ray-hodder-rest-in-peace-1968-2007/#comment-622 Joe V Sat, 22 Dec 2007 04:52:21 +0000 http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/09/07/ray-hodder-rest-in-peace-1968-2007/#comment-622 I am dumbstruck. I just found out. I was literaly trimming my tree - a song came on the reminded me of Luray (from about 20 years ago) and I searched her name and in 3 mintues I learned what I had never wanted to know. I knew Meg(hello) and Luray and Liz in HS. I always tended the fondest memories of our times together....and although this is too much for me to understand or accept right this sec - I want to send out Love and understanding and thanks to everyone that knew her - in hopes that they can recall the loving, unique and positive person she was....she was a shinning brightspot in my young life - and I for one will alwas remeber her this way....everytime I hear george winstons Thanksgiving. Namaste. Joe V I am dumbstruck.

Comment on Wow, does the MyBook suck by EddieZ http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/11/25/wow-does-the-mybook-suck/#comment-606 EddieZ Tue, 27 Nov 2007 22:29:08 +0000 http://blog.kevingoldsmith.com/2007/11/25/wow-does-the-mybook-suck/#comment-606 I haven't tried a MyBook, but I have had the WORST luck with LaCie drives. I recently picked up a Drobo, and while I thought I was paying a lot for a storage system, I have since upgraded capacity twice and I have more than paid off the initial premium. Been great, bummer it's just USB, but it has been working like a champ for me so far (crosses fingers). - Eddie I haven’t tried a MyBook, but I have had the WORST luck with LaCie drives.
